Land Capability Assessments

Detailed land capability/soil survey work is the essential first step in the establishment or expansion of existing production systems. ARM's highly skilled, practical staff can provide expertise in:

Case Study

Client: Jordan Dam and Options Feasibility Study

ARM staff conducted the land capability and irrigation potential component of this study. A total land area of 3885 ha was deemed suitable in the Jordan Valley in Southern Tasmania. An annual area of between 1200 and 1600 ha was assessed at requiring 3500 ML per annum. Included in this assessment was an analysis of the potential agricultural enterprises suitable for the region based on soil types, climatic factors, land tenure, land owner skills base and access to regional processing and handling facilities.

During the study, ARM staff formed an alliance with Cambium Land Management Pty Ltd to jointly initiate the first commercial EM field survey to examine the issue of salinity over the potential irrigation area, producing salinity maps.
